Tell Democrats: Investigate and Impeach Kavanaugh
Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee made it clear they will stop at nothing to put Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court rather than investigate the numerous credible allegations of sexual assault he faces, as well as other possible lies he told to Senators during his Supreme Court hearings, as well as during previous confirmation hearings in 2004 and 2006. Taken together these make it clear he is unfit to serve on the bench -- including in his current capacity on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. You need to launch an investigation of Kavanaugh's behavior and possible lies and pursue his impeachment as soon as you are able!
Thursday's testimony from Brett Kavanaugh was appalling. He bullied and blustered his way through questions from Democratic Senators about his alleged assault of Prof. Christine Blasey Ford, and at important moments failed to give clear and direct answers to key questions.
But today's performance by Senate Republicans is even worse. On a party line vote they rejected Democratic calls for an FBI investigation, refused to subpoena other women who have also alleged sexual assaults by Brett Kavanaugh, and refused to call in for questioning Kavanaugh's friend Mark Judge, a crucial witness to his behavior.
It is clear that Republicans will do everything they can to railroad his nomination through. They have no desire to get to the bottom of what Kavanaugh did.
We have to step up and act. Last week thousands of Demand Progress members emailed Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee urging them to begin their own investigation of Kavanaugh and impeach him and seek his removal by a trial in the Senate -- whether he's on the Supreme Court or still at the DC Circuit Court of Appeals. Five Democrats, including Reps. Hank Johnson, Ted Lieu, Jerry Nadler, Luis Gutierrez, and Pramila Jayapal have already vowed to begin that investigation.
Now let's get all Democrats on board. Tell Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee: investigate and impeach Brett Kavanaugh!
