    Tell Obama: No New Nukes

It's been 30 years since a new nuclear power plant was built in the United States -- but President Obama wants to change that: He's pushing for more nuclear power, and is even subsidizing it with billions of public dollars. There's a very good reason why nuclear energy development came to a halt here: The tragedy in Japan has made it clear just how dangerous nuclear power can be.

If we're providing public subsidies for electricity generation, we should focus those resources on clean, safe, renewable energy projects.  It's not too late for Obama to reverse course: The first new nuclear plants are scheduled to go online in 2016 or 2017.  Let's tell the President to kill these risky and expensive projects and steer the money to renewables instead.  Just add your name at right to sign our petition:

PETITION TO PRESIDENT OBAMA:  The tragedy in Japan makes clear the extraordinary dangers of nuclear power.  We need you to put the brakes on the new nuclear reactors, and divert funds to supporting clean, safe, renewable energy projects.

This New York Times article from last year discusses Obama's funding of the first new nuclear reactors in the U.S. in 30 years.
