Tell members of Congress: Pledge not to take another penny from the NRA!

    Petition to members of Congress:
We echo the call of the brave, young students growing a movement to end gun violence: Pledge not to accept any more campaign contributions from the NRA!

Florida high schooler, Cameron Kasky, asked Senator Marco Rubio point blank: “Can you tell me right now, that you will not accept a single donation from the NRA in the future?”1

Senator Rubio couldn’t answer his question – and that’s exactly the problem.

As long as politicians accept NRA money, they’ll be bound to the NRA’s whims, and more school shootings and mass shooting will continue to claim more and more lives.

Demand Progress stands in solidarity with the youth activists in Florida, and we’re following their lead: We’re calling on everyone in Congress to refuse any more contributions from the NRA.

From Columbine to Newtown to Las Vegas, the NRA has used their incredible wealth to buy politicians outright and stall any measure designed to prevent mass shootings in America. Senator Rubio himself has received over a million dollars from the NRA throughout his political career.2

And when tragedies like the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Senator Rubio and politicians like him who continue to take NRA contributions refuse any legislation to limit assault rifles, enforce background checks, screen gun show sales, or any other common sense measure to curb gun violence.

This violent cycle of campaign dollars and federal inaction must end now. Sign and share the petition. Tell members of Congress: Pledge not to accept any more contributions from the NRA.

The NRA touts itself as a gun-owners' Second Amendment rights group, but gun manufacturers themselves have contributed up to $38.9 million to fund the NRA.3 And they have a clear agenda to protect their profit margins over public safety and human lives.

Right now, the FBI is investigating whether the NRA illegally funneled Russian money into Trump’s 2016 campaign, spending millions to elect Trump.4

As long as the NRA hold politicians in a financial vice-grip, they’ll continue to dictate what’s politically possible – and more innocent civilians will die.

Sign and share the petition. Tell members of Congress to break the chokehold: Pledge not to accept anymore money from the NRA.
