Pass a War Powers Resolution to help end the war in Yemen!

On the campaign trail, President Biden pledged to end US involvement in the Saudi-UAE-led coalition’s war in Yemen. Two years later, the US has approved billions of dollars in weaponry and military contracts to Saudi Arabia and the UAE and continues to provide logistical support, maintenance, and spare parts to the Royal Saudi Airforce, the backbone of the coalition’s offensive military campaign.

After 7 years of war: hundreds of thousands of Yemeni civilians have died; 2 million children are suffering from acute malnutrition; a blockade is preventing food, fuel, aid and medical supplies from reaching the Yemeni people; more airstrikes bombard civilian infrastructure; and the Biden administration continues to drag its feet on fulfilling the campaign promise President Biden made to end US involvement in the war in Yemen.

Currently there’s a ceasefire from both sides of the conflict, but that’s scheduled to end before summer is over. The fighting, and the humanitarian crisis caused by the fighting, are expected to get worse — until a negotiated end to the war is finally secured.

Now it’s time for Congress to act. Congress can pass a War Powers Resolution to unilaterally end US involvement in the war in Yemen. House Reps. Jayapal and DeFazio have already introduced that legislation with dozens of allies. We need to rally to pressure Members of Congress to stand together and pass a War Powers Resolution to end US involvement in the war in Yemen, stop the blockade, save lives, and pull millions of Yemenis back from the brink of starvation.
