    Stop Big Oil’s next disastrous fossil fuel project on the Colorado River

    Petition to President Biden:
    We urge you to stop the oil train project along the Colorado River. A risk of a train derailment and the risks to drinking water for millions of people are far too high. We need to end the construction of new fossil fuel infrastructure.

    Big Oil is trying to cash in on another disastrous project, but President Biden has the power to stop it. We cannot let Exxon, Chevron, Shell, and the rest of the big fossil fuel companies go on with business as usual in the face of climate change.

    Big Oil’s plan is to build a huge train line to carry oil along the Colorado River. Colorado Senators and environmental advocates oppose the plan because the project threatens the drinking water of millions of people, not just in Colorado, but across the western United States.1

    If we don’t end oil drilling, new pipelines, and disastrous projects like this oil train, the only people who benefit are fossil fuel executives. President Biden must halt this project now.

    Last fall, the Biden administration rescinded a Trump-era approval of oil and gas permits in the area, citing the potential emissions.2 Now, President Biden must stop this disastrous oil train project. We must stand against another step in the wrong direction on climate policy, all just so Big Oil can continue to rake in profits.

    The increase in train derailments should be enough to stop this train project right in its tracks. As Colorado Senator Michael Bennet and Representative Joe Neguse wrote in a letter to the Biden administration, "We simply cannot afford the risk of an oil train derailment in these sensitive areas."3

    Drinking water, our environment, and the future of the planet is on the line with this and every single new oil project. We can’t let this move forward.
