The extreme right-wing Supreme Court’s “absolute immunity” ruling could still let Trump off the hook in all of his criminal cases. Democrats in Congress are fighting back and saying loud and clear that No One is Above the Law.

Democrats put forward new legislation called the No Kings Act to invalidate the “absolute immunity” ruling. The bill would assert that, despite what Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, and Neil Gorsuch said in their extreme majority opinion, presidents do NOT have immunity for criminal actions.¹

In her dissenting opinion on the absolute immunity ruling, Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote, "In every use of official power, the president is now a king above the law." She added that she feared for our democracy.²

Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said, “The Founders were explicit – no man in America shall be a king. Yet, in their disastrous decision, the Supreme Court threw out centuries of precedent and anointed Trump and subsequent presidents as kings above the law.”³ And that’s exactly why Leader Schumer introduced the No Kings Act — to override this dangerous SCOTUS ruling and protect American democracy.
