Tell Congress: Protect whistleblowers from Trump!
Petition to Congress:
We urge you to take all necessary steps to protect whistleblowers from Donald Trump, especially the Ukraine whistleblower. We urge you to also strengthen existing laws to prevent retaliation, close loopholes, and clarify reporting rules. The House created a Whistleblower Ombudsman Office, and we urge the Senate to follow suit.
Donald Trump is stepping up his dangerous attacks on the person who blew the whistle on his efforts to extort the Ukraine government into helping Trump interfere in the 2020 election.
The whistleblower's lawyer sent a cease and desist letter this week to the White House warning that Trump was putting the whistleblower and their family's safety at risk. But yesterday Trump once again went on TV to demand the whistleblower's identity be released to the public.1
Trump is not only risking the whistleblower's safety — he's trying to intimidate other whistleblowers into silence. It's time to fight back. Donald Trump has repeatedly made it clear he is willing to use the power of the entire federal government to harass his perceived enemies, even when it's a government employee simply doing their job.
Now Trump is threatening the safety of the whistleblower. In the letter to the White House, the whistleblower's lawyer listed several examples of Trump's "fixation" on the whistleblower's identity:
"Such statements seek to intimidate my client - and they have...Should any harm befall any suspected named whistleblower or their family, the blame will rest squarely with your client."2
Trump wants to reveal the whistleblower so he and his allies can intimidate them. Congress must step up and act now protect this and all whistleblowers from harassment and retaliation from Donald Trump. Will you help?
