Tell Representative Gordon: Stop Bullying Gay Teens

Astounding ignorance: Rhode Island State Representative Dan Gordon is threatening to de-fund his own district's public high schoolWhy?  Because students there started a Gay-Straight Alliance club to try to combat bullying.  Gordon's words speak for themselves. Here's what he told NPR today:

“I don’t think we should be promoting anything whatsoever that has to do with sexuality....Especially in a school that receives public funding.”  He continued, “I don’t think there would be much of a problem with bullying if students weren’t flaunting their sexuality in school."

And here's a comment Gordon left on a local blog this week, threatening his town's public school funding:

And this is why if I have anything to say about it, Tiverton will lose school funding to local charter schools. It doesn't matter if gay or straight, if sexual meet-up groups are being promoted in our schools rather than improving test scores, that school is failing. Is it really more important for our children to get 'sexed-up', than learning advanced math?

Gordon's ignorance makes it clear why groups like the Gay-Straight Alliance are so important. Will you express your outrage to Rep. Gordon?  Just fill out the form at right to automatically send him this note.

TO STATE REP. DAN GORDON:  Your ignorance is outrageous, and perfectly demonstrates why groups like your high school's Gay-Straight Alliance are so important.  I hope you'll come to see the error in your ways, end your sorry crusade, and support your high schoolers' efforts to build greater understanding.

Just add your name at right and we'll deliver your message to Rep. Gordon.
