Will You Help Us Fix The PATRIOT Act?

We completely jammed the phone lines!  Thank you to the nearly 3,000 Demand Progress members who braved constant busy signals as they called the White House today to demand that President Obama keep his campaign pledges and fix the PATRIOT Act.  They were joined by thousands more from groups like the ACLU, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Bill of Rights Defense Committee, and others.  The White House heard our message loud and clear. 

Here's what caller Dusty Fisher of Texas reported back:

"I called to ask President Obama to add reasonable amendments to the PATRIOT ACT to protect civil liberties and the White House line was jammed; thousands of other Americans were calling with me at that moment!"

Demand Progress is only a few months old, but we're at the forefront of the effort to fix the PATRIOT Act. More than 70,000 Demand Progress members contacted their elected officials in support of PATRIOT Act reform in January -- more than any other group that's working on the issue this year.  We aired an ad on cable news in Washington, DC before the re-authorization vote.  And then our allies in Congress stood up and blocked a lengthy renewal.

Now, as Congress considers real reforms to the PATRIOT Act, we're making sure Americans' voices are heard.
