    Petition to Senate Democrats:
Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the 45th president on Friday, January 20th. He has promised to govern on a platform of xenophobia and hate. His agenda and behavior is unprecedented, unconstitutional, and unpresidential. Please stand with 60+ House Democrats and skip his inauguration of hate.

On January 20, Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States. But this is no ordinary inauguration.

He will violate the Constitution on day one due to his irreconcilable conflicts of interest — and has threatened to trample Americans' constitutional rights to target marginalized communities.

Over 60 House Democrats have said they will not be attending the inauguration, including civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis, whom Trump has attacked and insulted relentlessly. But as of today, not a single Senate Democrat has pledged to skip the inauguration.

Tell Senate Democrats: Join 60+ House Democrats. Don’t attend Trump’s inauguration.

He uses Twitter to target his critics, unleashing vicious online mobs against not just public figures, but private citizens. He wants to make authoritarian changes to the law to make it harder to protest him and stop his agenda, including mass surveillance and a return to torture. And never before has a president-elect nominated so many corporate cronies with dangerous and outrageous conflicts of interest.

In short, Donald Trump is unpresidential.

Now is not the time for Democrats to stand on ceremony. Now is the time for Democrats to stand with their constituents who are being attacked by Trump and his supporters.

Tell the Senate Democrats: Don’t normalize Trump and his bigotry. Skip the inauguration of hate.

Senate Democrats shouldn't only concern themselves with propriety and decorum. Donald Trump dispensed with that long ago. They must make it clear as day they will do everything in their power to resist Trump and his hateful agenda. They must leave no doubt in the minds of millions of Americans living in deep fear of what happens after January 20 that Democrats stand with them and against Trump’s anti-democratic platform of bigotry and authoritarianism.

Sign the petition: Tell Senate Democrats to join their 60+ colleagues in the House. Don’t attend Trump’s inauguration.
