    Petition to Congress:
Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey in the middle of an investigation into the Trump campaign's connections to Russian interference in our elections. It's a brazen abuse of power. Refuse to advance any of Trump priorities through Congress – including by denying unanimous consent and rejecting all Trump nominations – until a special prosecutor is named to lead an independent investigation into Trump’s ties with Russia.

This is Trump’s biggest abuse of power yet.

He fired the country’s top law enforcement official as he oversaw an ongoing FBI investigation bearing on Trump himself. This action is a clear threat to the rule of law, even American democracy itself.

As leading legal expert Jeffrey Toobin put it, “This is the kind of thing that goes on in non-democracies.”1

Sign the petition: We need an independent investigation into Trump NOW. Block all of Trump’s priorities in Congress until a special prosecutor is named to lead the investigation.

Trump’s “explanations” for the move simply don’t add up.

He wants the public to believe he fired Comey because of his handling of the Clinton email investigation damaged the FBI’s reputation…

Really? After he praised Comey’s investigation and potentially election-swinging letter days before Election Day as “the right thing” that “took a lot of guts”?2 Yeah, right.

The Wall Street Journal reported what is likely the real reason: Comey would not relent to pressure from the White House to quash the FBI’s investigation of Trumpworld’s ties to Russia.3 Kellyanne Conway’s bizarre assertion that “it’s not a cover up” doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.4

A president hasn’t done something like this since the Watergate scandal that forced Richard Nixon out of office.

We don’t know what Trump is trying to cover up. But we need to find out – now.

Sign now: Congress must demand an independent investigation into Trump, led by a special prosecutor – and block all of Trump’s priorities in Congress until the investigation is established.

This scandal is so hot that Republicans in Congress are already breaking off and starting to call for a real, independent investigation into Trump.

But not all of them. Republican TV host Joe Scarborough called the others out hard on Twitter:

"Republicans trying to whitewash this gross abuse of power, stop. The President is trying to kill the investigation into his ties w/ Russia. … Republicans. Stand the Hell up."5

It only takes 3 Republicans in the Senate to refuse to confirm any Trump nominees until an independent special prosecutor is named.

And if they stand up and fight, even Democrats alone can use parliamentary procedures like denying “unanimous consent” to grind the business of the Senate to a halt until we get a special prosecutor.

Republicans and Democrats alike need to hear the public supports them using every power at their disposal to get the independent investigation our country deserves.

Sign the petition: We need an independent investigation into Trump’s Russian ties immediately.
