A merger between Bayer AG and Monsanto would create the largest seed and pesticide company in the world, resulting in higher food prices for consumers, less choice and reduced income for farmers, and a near monopoly on global seed supply. Protect consumers and farmers by rejecting this merger now.
The world’s largest seed company and the world’s largest pesticide company want to merge, in what is being described by farmers and activists as a “marriage made in hell”.
Having one company control so much of the agricultural industry is dangerous for consumers, farmers, and the environment.
Sign the petition to tell the Department of Justice: Block the Bayer-Monsanto Merger!
Monsanto has been under fire for years for bullying small farmers and as the largest producer of GMOs (genetically modified organisms), spending millions to prevent commonsense labeling of foods and products containing GMOs.
And Bayer produces insecticides that kill honeybees in massive numbers – jeopardizing the production of some of our most nutritious foods like oranges, apples, nuts, and tomatoes.
If this and another merger is approved, just THREE companies will control the majority of the global seed market, including a whopping 70-80% or more in seeds like corn and cottonseed.
That means less choice and higher prices for farmers, which will ultimately limit consumer choice and create higher prices at the grocery store. No company should have that much control over our food supply.
But we’re running out of time to stop this dangerous merger: The Justice Department is conducting its final review, and a decision is due soon.
