Petition to Attorney General Jeff Sessions:
Over your career, you’ve taken more than $289,000 in political contributions from a coal company and the law firm that represents them. Now that both the company and the firm are being investigated for bribery charges, you must recuse yourself over this clear and blatant conflict of interest.

“It’s cheaper to pay for a politician than it is to pay for an environmental cleanup.”1

That’s how US Attorney Jay Town described an ongoing investigation of a coal company accused of bribery and political corruption in Alabama. But there’s one major problem – Town’s boss is Jeff Sessions and Sessions has taken more than $289,0002 from the very same coal company he’s supposed to be investigating.

In Alabama, the Drummond Company, and their law firm Balch & Bingham, have been at the center of a political corruption scandal for years. And over that same period of time, they’ve given hundreds of thousands of dollars to Alabama politicians, including former Alabama Senator and now Attorney General, Jeff Sessions.

This is pay for play politics at its worst. While the Drummond Company polluted air and poisoned residents of a low-income, majority Black neighborhood in Birmingham, politicians like Jeff Sessions were wined and dined to look the other way.

And now, as Attorney General running the DOJ, Jeff Sessions is responsible for overseeing an investigation into his own top donors.

Tell Jeff Sessions: Step down and recuse yourself from this investigation immediately.
