Congress Investigates TSA This Week: Tell Them To Ban The Airport Scanners!
UPDATE, MARCH 16TH: Unbelievable: The TSA initially refused to testify before Congress today, and only showed up after Congress met TSA administrators' demands that they not be seated with their critics. More info here. Sign our petition and tell Congress to hold this petty, rogue agency accountable!
ORIGINAL: It's absolutely amazing -- now the TSA is admitting that it flubbed its tests of how much radiation is emitted by its airport scanners: The real levels are TEN TIMES higher than first thought! We probably shouldn't be surprised -- a December investigation revealed that the TSA was lying about who had reviewed the safety of the scanners to begin with.
The House Government Affairs Committee is holding hearings on the scanners this week. Will you urge them to ban the scanners? The TSA is violating our rights, zapping us with X-rays that could cause cancer, slowing down lines, and probably making Americans less safe by compelling more people to drive long distances instead of flying. Let's urge Congress to rein in the TSA and order them to cease use of the scanners:
PETITION TO THE HOUSE GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE: Thank you for investigating the safety of the TSA's airport scanners. TSA has lied about scanner safety and underestimated radiation levels by ten-fold. Please demand that they stop using them right away.
Add your name at right and we'll make sure Congress gets the message.
