Aaron Swartz Memorial Award Nominations

As we reach the first anniversary of his tragic passing, Demand Progress and several of Aaron Swartz's friends and colleagues are instituting an award in his memory.

Aaron Swartz was an activist, technologist, and innovator. He revolutionized the Internet and fearlessly defended our freedoms, taking on some of our country's biggest institutions. This award recognizes artists, activists, technologists, and academics who uphold Aaron's ideals and fighting spirit by taking on entrenched power to protect freedom, advocate for justice, and bring about true progress.

Just as Aaron's work inspired activists everywhere, award recipients inspire others to be part of bold campaigns to achieve real change. The award celebrates Aaron’s legacy by recognizing that the fight for justice requires dedication, creativity, and relentless experimentation.

Though people know Aaron most for his work relating to improving and protecting the Internet, award nominees may work for any sort of radical change - Aaron cared about issues beyond Internet freedom, and the award committee wants to recognize that as well.

Please nominate fitting potential recipients at right.  The committee will deliberate over coming weeks, and announce the recipients in late winter or early spring.
