Block Trump’s crusade against free speech and nonprofits
Petition to Congress:
We urge you to oppose the unconstitutional persecution of people and nonprofit organizations exercising their First Amendment right to oppose the White House’s policy agenda.
Trump signed a sweeping national security memo that empowers agencies across his administration to go after people and organizations that oppose Trump's agenda. That means Pam Bondi's DOJ, Kash Patel's FBI, Stephen Miller, and even the IRS are coming after Trump's political opponents.
This broad directive, called “Countering Domestic Terrorism and Organized Political Violence” or NSPM-7, puts anyone that the Trump regime determines to hold “anti-American” beliefs or “extreme” views on topics like race, gender, “American values,” or immigration at serious risk of targeted political persecution.1
It specifically weaponizes the IRS to strip the nonprofit status of organizations that the broad memo considers a threat to the Trump administration.2 This presents a direct threat to the First Amendment and the groups fighting Trump's agenda.
Sign the petition: Block Trump's crusade against dissent. Don't let the IRS shut down organizations fighting Trump's agenda!
As the ACLU says in its report on NSPM-7, “The memo is a fever dream of conspiracies, outright falsehoods, and the president's distorted equation of criticism of his policies by real or perceived political opponents with ‘criminal and terroristic conspiracies.’”3 It's the basis for an authoritarian assault on our rights and freedoms, and the most basic principles of American democracy.
Trump recently escalated his crackdown on dissent when he officially designated four anti-fascist groups in Europe as “foreign terrorist organizations.”4 This could lay the groundwork for the FBI and DOJ to come after anyone and any organization his administration believes is associated with these groups.
Most nonprofit organizations wouldn't survive if the IRS followed through on the threats outlined in NSPM-7. Our leaders must stop MAGA's unconstitutional attack on free speech and dissent.
