Block Netflix and Trump-backed Paramount media takeovers!
Petition to Congress:
We urge you to block proposed deals between Netflix and Paramount to buy Warner Brothers. Both of these deals violate antitrust laws, would hurt consumers and artists, and pose serious ethical concerns.
After Netflix announced a $70+ billion deal to buy Warner Brothers, Paramount CEO (and major Trump ally) David Ellison and Jared Kushner launched a hostile takeover of Warner Brothers, all with funding from Saudi Arabia and Qatar.1,2
Trump said the Netflix deal could be a “problem.”3 Paramount’s Ellison recently told Trump that he’d bring sweeping changes to CNN.4 Paramount’s CBS has already installed unqualified right-wing figures at the top of its news properties. Trump may put his finger on the scales for Paramount (and for his son-in-law) to further consolidate news networks like CNN under the control of his allies.
Both the proposed Netflix and Paramount mega-mergers violate antitrust laws. The Paramount deal also poses deep ethical concerns and risks to our democracy. Congress must block both of these media mega-mergers.

Senator Elizabeth Warren said that the Netflix deal would be an “anti-monopoly nightmare” and has said that under Trump, “the antitrust review process has also become a cesspool of political favoritism and corruption.”5 Both deals would lead to higher prices for consumers, create monopolistic control over the news, and pose a threat to artistic expression.
Trump may decide to apply the law where it benefits him and rubber-stamp the disastrous mega-merger that he prefers — in this case, Paramount’s bid for Warner Brothers.
Giant corporations are battling over a monopoly while pro-Trump allies mount a media takeover to grab even more power for the administration’s far-right propaganda machine. The Senate is holding an antitrust hearing on the Netflix merger. Our lawmakers must stop both deals.
