Condemn Senators who rubber-stamped Trump’s military strikes on Venezuela

Petition to U.S. Senators who voted against the Venezuela War Powers Resolution:
I am deeply disappointed in your vote against the War Powers Resolution on Venezuela. The American people do not want another endless, intractable, regime change war. We urge you to use your constitutional powers and stop unilateral military action against Venezuela.

Despite Trump's unilateral military strikes against Venezuela, and 50 other Senators voted to abdicate the Senate's constitutional warmarking authority.1

Because of ’s “no” vote, the War Powers Resolution to stop a war with Venezuela failed. It’s vital that Senators know that we condemn their vote, especially as Trump’s defiance of the law escalates. Days after the vote, the Trump administration bombed two more boats coming from Venezuela, killing at least 6 people.2 Trump even deployed the massive USS Gerald Ford aircraft carrier and three warships into Latin American waters, prompting a Venezuelan military mobilization.3

The resolution was essential to send a clear message to Trump saying: No more unauthorized wars! The American people don’t want another endless war. It’s critical that we show that we want them to oppose strikes on Venezuela.

Hold your lawmaker accountable: Tell that you condemn their failure to check Trump’s war powers in Venezuela.

After the vote fell short, Senator Ed Markey said, “Asserting Congress’s constitutional role in war is not some procedural detail; it is fundamental. Our government is based on checks and balances, and Congress’s authority to declare war is a core principle of what makes America a democracy.”4

On Trump’s aggression against Venezuela, Senator Adam Schiff said, “It’s really an open secret that this is much more about potential regime change.”5

Congress can’t allow Trump to drag the country and our service members into another prolonged, intractable war. Senators who failed to stop Trump’s drive towards a war in Venezuela must know that their constituents stand against the White House’s military escalations.

Sign the petition: Tell that we condemn their vote in favor of unilateral war authority for Trump.
