    Tell Congress: Pass the Electoral Count Reform Act!

    Petition to the Senate:
    The Senate must update the antiquated Electoral Count Act of 1887 before the end of the 117th Congress! No question should exist about who won the presidency, and the process used by Congress to identify the winner must be unambiguous and free from political interference. The bipartisan Electoral Count Reform Act, S.4573, was reported to the full Senate and is ready for passage.

    This week, the House January 6 Committee voted to recommend the Department of Justice (DOJ) pursue criminal charges against Donald Trump for his role in the Capitol insurrection.1 The recommended Trump charges include conspiracy to defraud the federal government; obstruction of an official proceeding; conspiracy to make a false statement; and inciting or assisting those in an insurrection.2

    As we wait to see if the DOJ will prosecute Trump, we must take steps to protect the safety and integrity of the 2024 elections. The Electoral Count Reform Act would ensure all the votes are counted without political interference. We need to pass this bill immediately, before Trump’s GOP takes control of the House.

    Trump’s Big Lie — that the 2020 election was rigged against him — looms large over the 2024 elections, especially with Trump running for president again. But Congress can neutralize the Big Lie with the Electoral Count Reform Act.

    Trump is an extremist, so, in some ways, it’s no surprise that he said recently that he’d “terminate” the Constitution to steal the 2020 election.3 But we can’t get used to Trump’s extremism.

    We can’t allow Trump to use the Big Lie to deny election results or stoke the flames of another January 6 style insurrection. The Senate can act to protect the vote count in our elections and they must do it before Trump’s GOP takes over the House.

    Urge your Senators: Pass the Electoral Count Reform Act to safeguard the Constitution, protect the vote count in 2024, and stop Trump’s Big Lie.
