    Our Message to U.S. Congress:

From a huge gender pay gap between men and women -- which is even more staggering for trans women and women of color -- to no guarantee of paid family leave, women are marginalized economically in the U.S. Furthermore, cases of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls are given little to no airtime, despite the fact that Native women are ten times more likely to be murdered than any other ethnicity.

An overwhelming majority of people in the U.S. support increasing gender equality and are in favor of growing diversity, yet men and women are still not seen as equals under the law.

If passed, the Equal Rights Amendment would provide legal advocates a new avenue to push for pay equality and the strengthening of existing laws protecting survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. I am calling on you to pass the Equal Rights Amendment.

Now that Virginia has voted to ratify the ERA, becoming the 38th state to do so, it is clear that our country has reached a turning point for gender justice. It’s time for Congress to remove the ratification deadline and make the ERA law!

Though an overwhelming majority of people in the U.S. support increasing gender equality and are in favor of growing diversity, women are still not given full equal rights in the Constitution.

From a huge gender pay gap between men and women -- which is even more staggering for trans women and women of color -- to no guarantee of paid family leave, women are marginalized economically in the U.S. Furthermore, cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIW) are given little to no airtime, despite the fact that Native women are ten times more likely to be murdered than any other ethnicity.

The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was first drafted by Alice Paul in 1923 at a conference to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Seneca Falls Convention. After pushing for women’s suffrage, with only white women gaining access to the ballot box, more and more women began campaigning for the passage of the ERA. If passed, the ERA would amend the Constitution to articulate that sexes should be viewed as equals under the law.

As we become a more gender diverse country, the ERA would provide legal advocates a new avenue to push for pay equality, the strengthening of existing laws protecting survivors of domestic and gender-based violence, and protecting and expanding reproductive rights.

Now, that 38 states have voted to ratify the ERA, it's time for Congress to remove the ratification deadline to implement the Amendment.
