Tell Your Lawmakers: No Nukes In Georgia
Plans are moving forward for two new nuclear reactors in Georgia -- and the government is providing billions of dollars in subsidies for them! They'd be the first new reactors in the U.S. in 30 years, and there's a very good reason why nuclear energy development came to a halt here: The tragedy in Japan has made it clear just how dangerous nuclear power can be. If we're providing public subsidies for electricity generation, we should focus those resources on clean, safe, renewable energy projects.
It's not too late to reverse course: The nuclear plants are scheduled to go online in 2016 or 2017. Let's tell our lawmakers to kill this risky and expensive project.
TO MY LAWMAKERS: The tragedy in Japan makes clear the extraordinary dangers of nuclear power. We need you to put the brakes on the Burke County nuclear reactors, and divert funds to supporting clean, safe, renewable energy projects.
