    Hold the Trump administration accountable for attacks on free speech and journalism. Impeach Brendan Carr!

    Petition to the U.S. House:
    We urge you to impeach Brendan Carr in order to protect the First Amendment and media freedom in the United States.

    ABC filed a formal petition with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to fight back against Trump's constant authoritarian attacks on the network.

    The Trump administration threatened ABC's free press and speech rights when it tried to silence Jimmy Kimmel, investigated Disney's broadcast licenses, and probed The View for interviewing a Democratic candidate.1 ABC called Trump's FCC-led vendetta against The View, "unprecedented, beyond the Commission’s authority and counterproductive to the Commission’s stated goal of encouraging free speech and open political discussion."2

    ABC's petition called out the political double-standard of Trump's actions. The FCC has gone after talk shows that are critical of the White House, but not the far-right talk shows that express MAGA loyalty every single day.3 It’s clear that Trump and his FCC chair, Brendan Carr, are infringing on the First Amendment rights of those who disagree with the administration.

    Trump has empowered Carr to silence and punish his critics. After Donald and Melania Trump again called for ABC to fire Kimmel last month, Carr launched a hostile review of Disney's broadcast licenses. Trump's FCC also went after ABC for its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.4,5

    In March, Carr threatened to revoke broadcast licenses for news agencies that reported critically on Trump’s war on Iran.6

    Trump is deploying the full force of the government to silence the media, without regard for the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

    Carr's dangerous overreach poses a serious threat for all of our free speech rights. Congress must end this chilling abuse of power.
