Trump is illegally detaining legal residents of the United States like Mahmoud Khalil. He’s defying court orders to deport people without due process, including a doctor (and legal resident) at Brown University,1 and over two hundred people who were sent directly to El Salvador’s horrifying mega-prison called CECOT.2
Trump is making it absolutely clear that he’s trying to grab absolute power in America. The Supreme Court may be the only thing that can stop Trump, but the right-wing, corrupt justices on SCOTUS could give him everything he wants.
Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito have flouted ethics laws for years as they ruled in favor of the right-wing agenda, corporations, and Trump. That’s why Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced articles of impeachment against them last year.3 Congress must act now before SCOTUS hands Trump complete control.

Trump’s detention, mistreatment, and deportation of people without due process is a constitutional crisis. Even more so because he’s doing it in breach of federal court orders.
The illegal detention of Mahmoud Khalil shows that the administration is targeting political opponents for exercising First Amendment rights. We need the highest court in the nation to stop Trump.
But Thomas and Alito sacrificed their independence on the Supreme Court when they accepted millions in lavish gifts from corporate executives and GOP mega-donors. They’ve failed to recuse themselves from cases where they had a clear conflict of interest, including the Trump immunity case.
Upon introducing articles of impeachment against Thomas and Alito last year, AOC said, “Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito’s pattern of refusal to recuse from consequential matters before the court in which they hold widely documented financial and personal entanglements constitutes a grave threat to American rule of law, the integrity of our democracy, and one of the clearest cases for which the tool of impeachment was designed.”4
Trump’s threat to the rule of law and our democracy is clear, but Thomas and Alito are ready to back him up.
