Democratic lawmakers led by Reps. Ilhan Omar and Robyn Kelly filed articles of impeachment against Kristi Noem this week.¹ As Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary, Noem is at the head of ICE’s violent invasions of American cities and lawless attacks on civilians.

The articles of impeachment charge Noem with: violating the public trust as she leads ICE and Border Patrol’s violence against civilians and warrantless arrests; obstructing congressional oversight by repeatedly blocking lawmaker access to ICE facilities; and using taxpayer dollars at DHS to hand a $200 million advertising contract to a firm run by the husband of her chief propagandist at DHS.²

Rep. Kelly addressed Noem directly after announcing the articles of impeachment: “You have violated your oath of office and there will be consequences.”³ Urge your U.S. Representative to hold Noem accountable now!

After ICE shot and killed Renee Good in Minneapolis, Noem quietly signed an order barring congressional oversight visits to ICE facilities without a week’s notice.⁴ Since then, U.S. lawmakers including Reps. Ilhan Omar, Angie Craig, Kelly Morrison, and many others have been prevented from entering ICE buildings.⁵

Under Noem’s leadership, federal agents march through the streets, target people based on race, and desperately try to meet Stephen Miller’s deportation quotas. ICE shoots people and DHS protects agents no matter what. They storm apartment buildings, restaurants, schools, and car washes to kidnap people. They execute unconstitutional deportations, including sending over a hundred people to El Salvador’s infamous torture prison, CECOT.⁶

Congress must hold Noem accountable immediately for what Rep. Delia Ramirez called ICE’s “unaccountable, unlawful, unconstitutional war” on communities across the country.⁷ 70 U.S. Representatives are backing the impeachment push — now, more lawmakers need to get behind ending Noem’s vast abuses of power.
