    Investigate dangerous AI tech and force top AI executives to testify NOW!

    Petition to Congress:
    We urge you to investigate and hold hearings on AI safety. AI tech is extraordinarily powerful and dangerous. Recent incidents involving the biggest AI companies' tech used for hacking—such as the OpenAI-Hugging Face hack—and potential biological weapons development research by foreign governments show just how serious and threatening runaway AI tech is right now.

    Trump called the widespread, dire warnings over artificial intelligence safety a "sick conspiracy" against AI and data centers. He said AI doesn't need legal guardrails, just a "high IQ" president.1 It's an absurd, dangerous response to emerging hazards at the heart of AI development.

    OpenAI's artificial intelligence tech hacked into at least 2 companies. Governments are using Anthropic's Claude to surveil populations and conduct research for a biological weapons program.2,3

    Bernie Sanders introduced legislation to pause and regulate AI development, and ban "AI superintelligence."4 President Barack Obama said Democrats need to have a very clear AI safety plan.5 Demand Progress is calling for immediate high-level investigations into AI companies.

    The heads of Anthropic and OpenAI came out over the weekend to say they believe an AI slowdown is necessary.6 But these calls for a voluntary, scattershot slowdown are meaningless without strict regulation and corporate accountability. Without real government action, CEOs will continue to get even richer while the rest of us face existential threats to humanity.

    Sen. Sanders said, "Nearly every day, there is a frightening new story about how Big Tech companies are losing control of the technology they are developing, with potentially cataclysmic results."7

    States and other actors are already attempting to use AI to produce biological weapons. One expert said an Anthropic report on instances of this use case were "chilling examples of state-sponsored biological weapons developers tapping into the rapidly advancing capabilities" of top AI models.8

    There's bipartisan support for reining in unregulated, ultra-powerful AI, but Congress needs to move fast.
