The cost of prescription drugs has exploded. Big Pharma CEOs benefit while working Americans struggle to afford the medications they need. But a new federal rule could fix out-of-control pharmaceutical prices1
The Biden administration has been working towards finalizing an executive measure to exercise “march-in rights.” The measure would allow the federal government to license drug patents to other producers who would lower costs to consumers if Big Pharma refused to lower prices.2
Republicans are trying to block the new rule, arguing that recent far-right Supreme Court decisions make the effort to lower drug prices unconstitutional. Elizabeth Warren and other Senators are pushing to ensure the Biden administration finalizes this rule, but we need to add pressure to make sure Big Pharma and the GOP don’t win.

In most cases, our tax dollars are used to fund the research and creation of new, life-saving medications. Then, Big Pharma turns around and forces us to pay an astronomical amount for the cancer and heart disease drugs we helped create.
Senator Warren and others recently wrote to the Biden administration saying, “We urge you not to be deterred by congressional Republicans who are seeking to hamstring your authority to lower drug costs for Americans.”3
The Biden administration has a strong record of standing up to Big Pharma. In response, Big Pharma and their lobbyists have been doubling down on their efforts to block any and all actions to lower prescription medication costs.
Despite Big Pharma’s efforts and their 1,800 lobbyists on Capitol Hill, the Department of Commerce and Department of Health and Human Services are on the verge of finalizing this pro-consumer rule. It’s more crucial than ever that we make ourselves heard right now.
