Don't give Trump sweeping powers to crush his political enemies!
Petition to Congress:
We urge you to oppose language in the House budget bill known as the "nonprofit killer," a proposal that grants the White House sweeping powers to revoke the tax-exempt status of nonprofit organizations.
The House GOP is pushing a proposal known as the “nonprofit killer” in its massive budget bill — a law that would give Trump the power to destroy organizations that oppose his agenda.1
The “nonprofit killer” would allow Trump to unilaterally target and revoke the tax-exempt status of nonprofits without any oversight, effectively crushing these organizations. We’ve seen how Trump uses any powers he has (and doesn’t have) to suppress political dissent and punish political enemies. This new power would threaten the entire movement fighting back against Trump’s extreme right-wing agenda.
Add your name: Urge Congress to oppose dangerous legislation that would allow Trump to crush dissent!
If this proposal is passed in the Republican budget bill, all the White House would need to do is label an organization as “terrorist supporting” — no evidence or real justification needed.2 We know how Trump will abuse this power.
Democracy Now has called this proposal the most dangerous domestic anti-terrorism bill since the PATRIOT Act.3
Demand Progress joined over 100 nonprofit organizations in a letter to Congress opposing this reckless legislation when it was first introduced last year. Now, as Republicans continue to pursue this democracy killing bill, we urgently need to tell Congress that the country opposes this legislation.
Sign the petition: Tell Congress not to hand this dangerous, powerful tool to Trump!
