Petition to Congress:
We urge you to stop the federal government's targeted persecution of people and organizations exercising their First Amendment rights to protest. We urge you to oppose the persecution called for under NSPM-7, and to oppose increased funding for counterterrorism initiatives to carry out NSPM-7.
The Trump administration raided Ilhan Omar's home in a politically-motivated effort to deport her.1 The Department of Justice (DOJ) charged James Comey a third time in Trump's crusade against the former FBI director.2 The federal government sent anti-ICE activists to prison for decades for opposing ICE violence.3
This is Trump's government-wide effort to prosecute political enemies and instill fear in anyone protesting his administration. The White House is using NSPM-7 — a dangerous national security memo — to dramatically expand the definition of "domestic terrorist" to include people with mainstream views that differ from Trump's extreme far-right agenda.4
Stephen Miller characterized Trump's political opponents as "enemies of civilization."5 First Amendment advocates warn that anyone opposing Trump could be targeted by this administration.6 Congress needs to put an end to the full-blown weaponization of law enforcement.

Trump has targeted journalists, media outlets, pro-Palestinian protesters, people involved in investigating his attempt to overturn the 2020 election, and many others.
He threatened former Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and state election officials with criminal charges.7,8 Last week, his DOJ indicted Virginia state senator L. Louise Lucas, who led Democratic redistricting efforts in Virginia, in another political attack.9
"The NSPM-7 blueprint enables efficient coordination across federal agencies to disrupt our democracy and go after the greatest number of people through surveillance, investigation, and prosecution," said an advocate at Free Press. "The aim is to levy the heaviest penalties across agencies to achieve the harshest sentences."10
Under the Trump regime, no one who opposes the White House’s far-right agenda is safe. We need our lawmakers to decisively stand up against authoritarianism.
