BREAKING: The U.S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran this morning. President Trump said this is the beginning of “major combat operations” and is now calling for regime change in the country.¹

Iranian media reports strikes across the country, including an Israeli strike on an elementary girl’s school in Minab that killed at least 40 school children.²

House Democratic leadership said they will force a vote next week on Reps. Ro Khanna’s and Thomas Massie’s bipartisan war powers resolution to stop strikes on Iran.³ It’s urgent that we take action now to push all of Congress to end this disastrous war.

Trump declared that the ultimate goal of the attacks is to overthrow Iran’s government.⁴

Iran retaliated by launching strikes on U.S. military assets in states across the region, including Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.⁵

In a statement, Demand Progress Senior Policy Advisor Cavan Kharrazian urged Congress to pass a war powers resolution, saying:

"Trump has no authority to launch another war on his own. The Constitution is clear. The need for a War Powers Resolution is clear. Congress decides when this country goes to war, not the president.

Next week, every member of Congress will have to choose. Side with illegal endless war, or side with the American people and reject yet another regime change war in the Middle East. Like with Iraq, the choice they make will echo loudly for years to come."
