Trump’s efforts to rig the 2026 midterms now feature an all-out push to eliminate mail voting — potentially disenfranchising millions of people.¹ He called mail voting “THE MAIL-IN BALLOT HOAX”² when he announced his attempt to again break the law and suppress the vote.

Trump is also pushing extreme, racist, partisan gerrymandering in Texas that is on the verge of passing the state’s legislature.³ And the White House is calling for an unprecedented mid-decade census to exclude non-citizens from the count, which would “defy the Constitution.”⁴

The White House is trying to cause as much chaos as possible ahead of the midterms. Trump is sowing distrust, targeting immigrants, and spreading disinformation — all the hallmarks of a strongman’s attempt to destroy democratic elections. He’s willing to circumvent the Constitution and ignore federal courts — and he’ll do it again to end mail voting if our leaders do nothing.

The White House’s proposed ban on mail voting would completely upend voting across the country for tens of millions of people. It comes as Trump is also pushing extreme gerrymandering in Texas, where Governor Greg Abbott threatened to arrest protesting Democratic lawmakers so Republicans could create one of the most outrageously partisan U.S. House district maps in modern times.

Trump isn’t stopping at gerrymandering, a new census, and attacks on mail-in voting. He’s even peddling lies about issues with voting machines⁵ — the same lies that led to the January 6 attack on the Capitol and half a decade of right-wing propaganda.

Any executive order to ban mail voting or outlaw the use of proven voting machines “would violate the Constitution and is a major step to prevent free and fair elections,” said Democracy Docket.⁶ Trump is trying to rig the midterms and silence the people.

The stakes are clear: Trump and his allies want to lock themselves into power by rigging the system, suppressing votes, and silencing millions of Americans. Congress must stop Republicans from stealing the midterms.
