Call on Congress to reject and condemn hate
Petition to Congress:
We urge you to speak out firmly to reject and condemn anti-Muslim bigotry and antisemitism as well as the targeted censorship against people speaking out for Palestinian human rights.
Three Palestinian students were shot in Burlington, Vermont last weekend in what’s being investigated as a hate crime.1 This is the latest, tragic, violent instance of the rise of attacks and hate against Muslims and Jews after the eruption of violence in Israel-Palestine in early October. The conflict has also brought about targeted censorship against students and workers speaking up for Palestinian human rights.
It’s time for our political leaders to speak with a united voice on what should be very clear: this targeted hatred and censorship must end. We call on elected officials in Congress to reject and condemn the rise in anti-Muslim bigotry, antisemitism, and anti-Palestinian racism that has led to hate crimes, discrimination, and censorship targeting everyone from students to workers to protestors who dare to speak up for Palestinian human rights.
Sign the petition: Urge your members of Congress to condemn Islamophobia, antisemitism, and censorship against those speaking out for Palestinian human rights.
It’s dangerous when our elected officials decide that drumming up vitriol is more important than being united against hatred and persecution. This is not theoretical: Republican Ryan Zinke introduced dangerous, hateful legislation to expel Palestinians from the U.S. and ban Palestinians from entering the U.S. This is the kind of extremist, targeted hate coming from some elected officials in Congress.2
The Hamas attacks in Israel and the subsequent Israeli bombing campaign has led to a death toll of more than 14,800 in Gaza and 1,200 in Israel. But it has also led to ugly rhetoric in Congress, targeted violence in the U.S. against Muslims and Jews, and employers and institutions punishing people for simply speaking out for Palestinian human rights.
It’s time for our federal elected officials to take a firm stand against this ugly, targeted violence and persecution.
