Donald Trump has nominated a new justice before the inauguration -- and she's every bit as extreme as you'd expect.
Mitch McConnell has vowed to speed through the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett not just because of her long record of expanding corporate power while ruling against abortion rights, voting rights, and immigrant families.1 McConnell and Trump want a new justice in place before November -- in case they need her vote after the election itself to keep Trump in power.2
More than 125,000 Demand Progress members have sent emails and made calls to Senators urging them to use every tool at their disposal to grind the Senate to a halt and try and stop this totally illegitimate confirmation. It may be our best chance to stop Trump and McConnell. But we need to turn up the heat and send in even more emails and calls. Will you help?
Sign the petition: Tell Senators to use every tool their disposal to stop Trump and McConnell from confirming RBG's successor!
According to a new memo, Senators have numerous tools at their disposal that could delay the process until January, when new Senators and the president are inaugurated.3
But there are already some Senators who are ready to surrender -- despite the enormous stakes to our democracy and our most basic rights.4
We cannot let this nomination proceed without a fight. Demand Progress emails every signature on our petitions directly to their targets -- in this case, U.S. Senators. We need to fill their inboxes with messages demanding they do everything in their power to slow down or stop this confirmation process.
McConnell and Trump see this as their best, and perhaps last, opportunity to further stack the federal courts with extreme right-wing nominees who will cripple the next president -- and potentially even keep Trump in power. The stakes are enormous. We need to demand that leaders stand and fight.
Add your name now: Tell Senators to resist -- use every tool they have to try and stop Trump and McConnell from confirming RBG's successor!
