Sign the petition: Demand your lawmaker defund ICE and border patrol!
Petition to the House:
Members of Congress must defund ICE and CBP.
ICE and CBP have sunk to new lows even we didn’t think were possible.
After forcibly separating children from their parents and locking them in cages, ICE has admitted they cannot find the parents of over 500 of these children.1 That’s unspeakably horrific -- and it’s just one of thousands of terrible stories.
ICE forced hysterectomies on women at a facility in Georgia2, and new reports show that ICE agents tortured Cameroonian asylum seekers into signing their own deportation papers.3
It’s crystal clear to anyone with a conscience: ICE and CBP need to go. Sign the petition: Tell Congress to abolish ICE and CBP!
ICE’s human rights abuses are startling, but they’re not alone. CBP has played a direct hand in ICE atrocities as well as their own. For instance, the ripping apart of families at the border began with CBP and continues with ICE. Just like ICE, asylum seekers in CBP custody have died, miscarried children, and been denied medical care.4
CBP also has a jurisdiction of 100 miles inland from the physical US border, covering most major cities. They’ve used their authority to fly drones over Black Lives Matter protesters in Minneapolis. At airports, CBP agents have detained immigrants and US citizens alike and illegally searched their cell phones and computers.5
Trump didn’t create these agencies--George W. Bush did--but under Trump’s unrepentant racism and authoritarian leanings, ICE and CBP have become a Trump era secret police.
And they must be stopped. ICE and CBP not only routinely flout our constitution, they violate international human rights standards. For the over 2,000 children separated from their families, ICE and CBP have created a generation of broken homes and traumatized children.
