Don't let Trump rewrite history at the Smithsonian!
Petition to the Smithsonian Board of Regents:
We urge you to reject attempts by the White House to influence the historical record of America.
The White House released a dangerous new report on July 4th that ramps up its attacks on the Smithsonian.
In the report, Trump's cronies accused the Smithsonian of "extreme political activism" and trying to "erase" American "heritage." The report claimed that the historical institution is run by "radical activists."1 This follows Trump's executive order that directly threatened funding for the Smithsonian for its so-called "divisive, race-centered ideology" and "ideological indoctrination."2
Trump and his far-right lackeys want to rewrite history and make it a tool for right-wing propaganda. The Smithsonian Board of Regents must remain steadfast against Trump and protect the truth.

The country's largest group of U.S. history experts, the Organization of American Historians, responded to the White House report with a searing rebuke that ripped apart Trump's right-wing, white supremacist talking points.
"Make no mistake: The report represents an attempt to turn back the clock to a time when U.S. history was taught as the history of white Christian men who conquered a continent, U.S. military leaders who rarely lost a battle and U.S. presidents who were single-handedly responsible for national greatness, all under the cover of 'anti-D.E.I.' and 'anti-woke' crusading," they said.3
Trump's battle to exert power and influence over every aspect of society is playing out in the nation’s premier museums. Big Tech, media corporations, universities, and big law firms have given in to Trump's authoritarian regime, but it’s time to take a stand. The Smithsonian must protect history and refuse to bow to Trump.
