    Block Trump and Mike Johnson's plot to gut Social Security

    Petition to Congress:
    We urge you to reject any proposal to cut or cap Social Security benefits, privatize Social Security, or raise the retirement age. We urge you to support legislation that expands Social Security by lifting the cap on taxable income and requiring the wealthy to pay their fair share into Social Security.

    One of Project 2025's extreme goals is clear: Destroy Social Security.1 Elon Musk's DOGE advanced this aim to devastating effect last year.

    While Trump claims he has no plans to cut benefits, his own Treasury Secretary said that Trump's big ugly budget law last year includes a "backdoor way for privatizing Social Security."2

    Trump's tax cuts for billionaires and corporations will leave Social Security dangerously low on funds by 2032.3 Meanwhile, Musk and Jeff Bezos pay next to nothing in taxes to fund the benefit program. And Republicans, led by Mike Johnson, are floating plans to "kill" Social Security.4 Congress must act to protect benefits now.

    The ridiculous Social Security tax cap means that the ultra-wealthy only pay Social Security taxes on the first $184,500 of annual income.5 Musk, Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg clear the income limit at the very start of any given year and then stop paying Social Security taxes.

    Instead of raising these taxes on the ultra-rich, Speaker Mike Johnson said recently that "entitlement programs like Medicare, Medicaid and things like Social Security — they have to be adjusted and fixed…desperate times call for desperate measures."6

    That's Johnson and the GOP calling for ending Social Security as we know it: cutting benefits, raising the retirement age, and privatizing the program.

    Congress must stop Trump’s all-out attack on the social safety net.
