Petition to Congress:
Representative Peter King (R-NY) wants Donald Trump to create a nationwide surveillance program to spy on Muslim Americans. Please block ANY attempt to unconstitutionally monitor Muslim Americans based on their religious beliefs.
Representative Peter King (R-NY) had a meeting with Donald Trump, where he pressured him to create a nationwide Muslim surveillance program.
He suggested this surveillance program be modeled on the NYPD’s failed “Demographics Unit,” which surveilled thousands of innocent Muslim Americans throughout the New York Metropolitan area for more than a decade.
Tell Congress: Block ANY attempt to unconstitutionally monitor Muslim Americans based on their religion.
The NYPD created the surveillance program in secret with the help of the CIA after 9/11. It spent millions of dollars and countless personnel hours setting up cameras outside mosques, Muslim-owned grocery stores, and other centers of the community. It infiltrated Islamic societies and Muslim Student Organizations, even sending an undercover cop on a whitewater rafting trip hosted by a college’s Muslim student group.
In the more than ten years of its existence, it never produced a single terrorism conviction or even a shred of evidence of a terrorist plot. But it did violate the constitutional rights of thousands of ordinary Americans.
Tell Congress: Profiling Americans based on their religion is both morally wrong and unconstitutional. Say NO to a federal Muslim surveillance program.
History has shown us what happens when we forget our core American values. During World War II, over 110,000 Japanese Americans were unjustly imprisoned in internment camps. It was a shameful moment in our history and an outrageous violation of those Americans’ rights – but Japanese internment is already being held up by Trump surrogates as precedent for the terrifying programs Trump wants to impose on Muslim Americans.
