Tell Congress: Take away Trump's blank check to attack Iran
Petition to Congress:
Donald Trump claims to have a blank check to attack Iran. Show him he's wrong by voting to repeal the 2002 Authorization for Use of Military Force and to defund any military action against Iran.
UPDATE: The House just passed Rep. Barbara Lee's bill to repeal the 2002 AUMF, thanks in part to your signatures! Now we're organizing to get the Senate to pass this bill. Sign the petition and we'll immediately deliver it to your Senators.
In the fall of 2002 Congress handed George W. Bush a blank check to invade Iraq. Now Donald Trump claims that blank check allows him to attack Iran. It's time to tear up that blank check.
That Authorization of the Use of Military Force (AUMF) should never have passed in the first place. One of the few Democrats to oppose it, Rep. Barbara Lee, has fought for years to repeal it. The House is about to vote to do exactly that. They're also voting to defund any attack on Iran.
Now Trump is resisting. He threatened to veto the repeal and claimed that the AUMF is a legal basis for starting a war with Iran.1 This is dangerous and proves exactly why we need to repeal the AUMF. Will you help?
Sign the petition and tell Congress: Take away Trump's blank check and stop a war with Iran.
Trump made it clear earlier this month that he is willing to recklessly launch military attacks against Iran. He's also made it clear he isn't going to defer to Congress unless they force him.
Just this week the Trump Administration gave yet another frustrating briefing to Congress, refusing to share key intelligence or detailed plans. Senators said Trump has a "persistent unwillingness to engage Congress on military decisions."2
Trump wants the freedom to go to war with Iran whenever he wants, regardless of what the American people think. Congress is our best hope to stop him. That's why these two bills — repealing the 2002 AUMF and defunding further attacks on Iran — are so crucial.
Add your name: Send a message to Congress and tell them to stop Trump from going to war with Iran.
