Congress gave Trump at least two more weeks of runway to continue his criminal war on Iran when it left for recess on Friday — even though Democratic leadership in the U.S. House may have had the votes to stop the war.¹

U.S. Representative Gregory Meeks, the lead Democrat on the House Foreign Relations Committee, could have pushed for a vote on a war powers resolution to end Trump's illegal war, but decided to delay until at least April 13.

Trump has the Pentagon preparing for a ground invasion of Iran and is threatening to “completely obliterate” Iran's energy infrastructure.^2,3 It’s unacceptable that Democratic leaders left D.C. without taking action to halt Trump’s reckless, lawless war.

This war is a human, moral, and economic disaster. A month of U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran and Lebanon has killed thousands, displaced millions, and created economic chaos in the U.S. and around the world.

This is a moment for anti-war leadership. It’s an opportunity for Democrats to show true opposition to Trump’s lawless administration. The House should take action NOW, especially when reporting suggests they have the votes to pass a war powers resolution.

Rep. Meeks has the power within Democratic leadership to call for war powers votes. We must put pressure on Rep. Meeks to end the delays and fight for an immediate end to Trump’s wars.
