Petition to Congress:
We urge you to fund WIC immediately to support struggling families.
Congress passed a continuing resolution in mid-November to avoid a government shutdown but failed to include critical funding for women, infants, and children.
Over six million low-income women, infants, and children rely on funding for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) in order to afford food.1 With Congress opting not to fund WIC in the continuing resolution, our elected representatives left families struggling to figure out how to afford food. And new eligible participants may be turned away due to a lack of resources.
Congress must act now, before they leave to enjoy the holidays, and ensure struggling families have food.

This continuing resolution expires in January 2024, meaning the WIC program is expected to run without any funding until then. With the rising cost of living, more and more families rely on government assistance such as school meals, SNAP, and WIC to survive. Without the necessary funding, millions of Americans are at greater risk of food insecurity, and children under 5, infants, and women who recently had kids are most vulnerable.
Additionally, Black and Latino families are set to suffer the worst from Congress’s failure to fund WIC, as these families are more likely to utilize these WIC benefits the most.2
Congress has a responsibility to the American people and therefore cannot slash funding that supports women, infants, and children.
